Fergie Goes Brazilian

June 22, 2008 by Lynn

It seems like Fergie is everywhere, singing with everyone these days. She’s done many movie soundtracks, teamed with Nelly, Japanese singer Kumi Koda and now according to The Whig, she’s working with Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes on his new album of samba-style classics and new funk. The CD featires the voice of Fergie, among others.

The 12-track Encanto, opens with a new version of Burt Bacharach’s The Look of Love, which Mendes made Brazil’s No. 1 hit in 1966.

This time, Burt Bacharach’s The Look of Love is covered by the Black Eyed Peas’ frontwoman Fergie - “a new generation singing a classic with a Brazilian beat,” Mendes told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

“The way I did it … was slow bossa nova, like a ballad,” he said. “This is more a dancing song, very today, very young … it’s beautiful how Fergie sang it.”
