“Here comes FERGIE!”
The Black Eyed Peas are on their way to Johannesburg for a concert and HeiJy! tells you more about Fergie, the lead singer.
1. The arrival: Stacy Ann Ferguson was born on 27 March 1975 in Hacienda Heights, California
2. The Rebel: Even though she was raised in a strong Catholic house and was a girl scout, Fergie was a real rebel. She even hangs out with gang members in Hacienda Heights.
3. The Child Star: In the 80s she starred in the TV series Kids Incorporated. In the 90s she was a member of the girl band Wild Orchid – they released two albums.
4. The Drug Addict: Disappointed that Wild Orchid didn’t work out, Fergie turned to crystal methamphetamine and got addicted. She beat the addiction and said in an interview with Time magazine in September 2006 that ‘it was the most difficult relationship she had to end’.
5. The Right Road: In 2003 she became the lead singer of the Black Eyed Peas. She took over from Kim Hill who left the band in 2000. In the same year their album ‘Elephunk’ was a huge success with hits like ‘Where is the Love?’ that they recorded with Justin Timberlake, ‘Hey Mama’ and ‘Let’s Get it Started’. Their next album ‘Monkey Business’, released in 2005, was just as successful with the hits: ‘My Humps’ and ‘Pump It’.
6. Love: She met actor Josh Duhamel in 2004 when she appeared on the TV series Las Vegas and they started dating.
7. The Actress: Last year (2006) she had a small role in the movie ‘Poseidon’ and this year (2007) she can be seen in the Quentin Tarantino film ‘Grindhouse’.
8. The Solo Album: Her debut solo album, The Dutchess, was released in 2006. It has had various number one hits: ‘London Bridge’, ‘Fergalicious’, ‘Glamorous’ and ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’.
9. Third Time in South Africa: After their first visit to South Africa in 2004, for the celebration of the country’s 10 year democracy, the Black Eyed Peas came back last year (2006) for a benefit concert, and now they’re back for just one performance in Johannesburg.”
